Some singers have little quirks that endear themselves to their fans. With Tori Amos, aside from the obvious appeal of her lyrics and her voice (and her looks, I must add), I think it's the way she uses her breathing, as an actual part of the content of a song.

I met Tori after a stop on the tour for her second release and gave her the artwork you see to the right. Months later, a friend of mine (and hers), Rantz Hosely, who was art directing her tour books, asked me at a comic convention if I'd like to do some art for her upcoming tour book. Heck yeah! My wife and I met her after a show on that tour and she signed my copy of the tour book. Despite the music press needing to mention her 'out there' personality, she has always been nice to me when I've met her, as she is to all her fans.
